At Essex Orthopaedics our physicians provide for the patient a high level of care, with attention to each patient's individual needs. The surgeons at Essex Orthopaedics have training and expertise in most areas of orthopaedic surgery, including the latest techniques in hand and upper extremity, sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, and joint replacement.

Thomas Hoerner, M.D.

Dr. Hoerner is the senior member of Essex Orthopaedics since joining the practice in 1984. He is a senior member of the medical staff at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and the Andover Surgery Center. Dr. Hoerner served as Chief of Surgery at Lawrence General from July 2000 to December 2001.

Dr. Hoerner graduated from Cornell Medical School in 1978, then served as an intern and resident in General Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency and served as Chief Resident at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and has served as an Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and is a Member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the AMA.

Eric Arvidson, M.D.

Dr. Arvidson joined Essex Orthopaedics in 1991. He has practiced in the Merrimack Valley since that time, with staff privileges at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and the Andover Surgery Center. Dr. Arvidson served as Chief of Surgery at Lawrence General from November 2003 to January 2006.

Dr. Arvidson graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1984, and trained in General Surgery at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He then entered the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program, and served as a Chief Resident at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. After residency, Dr. Arvidson completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston where he continued on staff for five years. Dr. Arvidson is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, as well as a member of the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association.

Crawford Campbell, M.D.

Dr. Campbell has been with Essex Orthopaedics since 1995. He has full medical staff privileges at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and the Andover Surgery Center.

Dr. Campbell graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1987 and then interned
in General Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Combined Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. He also served as Chief Resident at Children’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Campbell then trained as the Rowe Shoulder Fellow at MGH, and spent one year for additional subspecialty training in Hand Surgery at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital. He is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Campbell achieved a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand.

Tahsin Ergin, M.D.

Dr. Ergin joined Essex Orthopaedics in 1993, coming to the Merrimack Valley after practicing with Sports Medicine Physicians, PC, near Philadelphia where he trained. He is a member of the Medical Staff at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and the Andover Surgery Center in Andover.

Dr. Ergin graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1985, and served as an intern in General Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Following a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at HUP, Dr. Ergin received additional training in Sports Medicine as a Fellow at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, during which he worked as an associate team physician with the Philadelphia Flyers and Philadelphia Eagles, as well as the Pennsylvania Ballet and Villanova University. Dr. Ergin is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a Fellow in both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the AMA.
